Volunteers
You Can Be Part Of It!
MotoAmerica, North America’s premier professional motorcycle roadracing series, is in its 12th year. The series is getting stronger every year, and you can be part of it! At every event we utilize the support of volunteers and a few paid helpers to run the event, in the paddock, on the grid, and out on the track.
Almost anyone can be a very important part of our events.
IT IS THE TICKET THAT YOU CANNOT BUY!
At every event we have four roles where we need help: Course Marshals, Grid Marshals, Tire Control Marshals, and Hospitality Volunteers.
Flag Marshals
These are the people, mostly in white, who you see working out on the track. There are some paid positions available for experienced marshals at most events; volunteer positions are always available.
Flag Marshals give flag and light signals to riders, and pass information back to Race Control via radio or land line. It’s not physically demanding and you are very close to the action.
Track Marshals
Track Marshals prepare the course for racing, check safety equipment and help clear the track after incidents, and a dozen other things. It’s best suited to people who are quite active as it may involve picking up crashed motorcycles. (Often on live TV!)
Before every event we run a 90-minute online training session you can attend from home. For your first event you will be partnered with an experienced person who will guide you and help keep you safe.
Three or four times a year we run a full day of course marshal training on the Thursday of an event — much more comprehensive, including simulated incidents on the circuit.
Grid Marshals
Guide riders to their correct grid spots at the start of races and watch out for any problems. This job is a great introduction to being a Motorsport official — it’s fairly easy (we can teach you in about an hour), only required for races, right in pit lane where the race teams are, and is physically undemanding.
Although the job is straightforward, it is of critical importance for safety at the start of races. Grid marshal training is done at every event and takes about an hour on a Saturday morning.
Tire Control Marshals
If you’re interested in the technical side, you might like to help assist the Technical Team by checking that race teams are following the regulations regarding tires. This job is mainly in the paddock and pit lane.
Tire control marshals are trained on the job, working with an experienced person. No prior experience is required — just an interest in the technical aspects of motorsport.
Hospitality Volunteers
Help feed many of the race teams and MotoAmerica staff, guests and other volunteers. Based around the MotoAmerica hospitality trailers.
Hospitality volunteers need little training, and we have had helpers as young as fourteen! It’s a welcoming role for anyone who loves to be part of the action without being trackside.
Interested But Hesitant?
Don’t know anyone who has volunteered with us previously? Don’t worry — you will make new friends immediately. We’re all there because we love motorcycle roadracing and want to support it. We get a huge range of volunteers including regular motorcyclists, families of three generations, single women, seniors and youngsters — basically, anyone.
You can, of course, come with friends. We have regular male and female volunteers from 18 to 80+ years of age, helping where it suits them. If you’re under 18, you may be able to help on grid or in hospitality — please ask.
